WARNING: “Off The Grid” Is The Worst Mistake I’ve Ever Made On Amazon Kindle
If you enjoy having a productive life, getting eight hours of sleep, and not being emotionally manipulated by a fictional man in broken sandals, then stay away from Off The Grid: Enemies to Lovers.
I’ve read a lot of bad books, but this one is a special kind of “terrible.” Here’s why I’m officially warning you to never open this Kindle file:
1. It Attacks My Career Choices
The book starts with Jacqueline Stars, an elite 32-year-old defense attorney who burns her L.A. life to the ground to move to a jungle 100 miles from civilization. I was offended by how much I related to her burnout. I don’t need a book telling me that my corporate job is toxic and that I should be building a sustainable paradise in the mud. It’s “the worst” because it makes you want to quit your job immediately.
2. The Male Lead is a Total “Fraud”
Then we meet Ngo. He looks like a penniless wanderer in salt-stained clothes. He’s “effortlessly calm” while Jacqueline is struggling with collapsing tents and twisted ankles. But wait—turns out he’s actually a multi-millionaire tech mogul who ditched his fortune to “reclaim his humanity.”
Are you kidding me? A rich man who doesn’t talk about his crypto portfolio and instead helps you fix your land boundaries? It’s a complete fantasy and it’s ruined my real-life dating standards forever.
3. The “Enemies to Lovers” Slow-Burn is Actual Torture
Watching Jacqueline’s hyper-independent armor slowly crack under the pressure of the jungle was agonizing. I wanted her to stay a cold, defensive city girl, but the author (Jabulani Ibraham) insists on making her “confront a terrifying new reality”—falling in love. The tension when Ngo quietly steps in to protect her from local land-grabbers is so thick you could cut it with a machete. I hated every second of how much I wanted them to finally kiss.
4. It’s Too Vivid
The description of the unforgiving rainforest is so intense I actually felt humid while reading it in my air-conditioned living room. I don’t want to feel like I’m in a tropical labyrinth; I want to be bored! Instead, I was glued to the screen until 4 AM.
THE FINAL VERDICT:
If you hate strong women finding their soft side, if you despise billionaires who hide in plain sight, and if you don’t want to be swept away by a high-stakes survival romance… DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.
This book is a trap. It will steal your heart, your sleep, and your sanity. You’ve been warned.
